Government Targets 10 Million Domestic Travelers in 2025

Kenya’s tourism sector is experiencing a significant upswing, with the government aiming to attract 10 million domestic tourists in 2025. This ambitious goal comes after a notable increase in local travel, with 5 million domestic tourists recorded in 2024—a substantial rise from previous years. Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano highlighted this surge, noting that the actual number might be higher, considering many travelers opt for accommodations like guest houses and Airbnbs, which aren’t always captured in official statistics.

To achieve this target, the Ministry plans to amplify local travel through robust marketing campaigns and the development of enticing domestic tourism packages. This initiative aims to encourage Kenyans to explore the rich and diverse attractions within their own country, from the scenic landscapes of the Rift Valley to the pristine beaches of the Coast.

In addition to boosting domestic tourism, the government is also focusing on increasing international arrivals, targeting 3 million visitors in 2025, up from 2.4 million in 2024. This dual approach underscores Kenya’s commitment to revitalizing its tourism sector and positioning itself as a premier global travel destination.

With these concerted efforts, Kenya’s tourism industry is poised for remarkable growth, offering both local and international travelers unparalleled experiences in the heart of East Africa.
